Head Barista

We are now looking for an experienced Head Barista to join our team at Bodega! We are a very busy specialty coffee shop, with a great team, and are at the heart of the community in Howth, Dublin. We focus on creating a personable experience, and place an emphasis on serving consistently excellent specialty coffee.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Bodega is seeking an experienced Head Barista to join the team at our specialty coffee shop in Howth. We have ambitious plans for expansion so we're looking for someone who is inspired and energized by a challenge, and who can contribute to the development and growth of our specialty coffee experience.

Based in Howth Market, we are an intimate yet very busy location. We focus on creating a personable experience for our customer, and place an emphasis on serving consistently excellent specialty coffee. This is all underpinned by our strong knowledge of coffee, our attention to detail, and making use of the best equipment available in the industry.

​

We also position ourselves at the heart of the community, building a relationship with our customers by learning their names, their favourite drinks and food items.  The Head Barista supervises and nurtures the team to help facilitate this service.  In addition, a strong base of specialty knowledge, attention to detail, training and motivating the team are all part of this role, together with ensuring that the brand values and standards are delivered.

Specific experience within (specialty) coffee is required, as well as at least 2 years' experience in cafe or restaurant supervisory/management role. A full driving license is also an advantage.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

​

  • Assume responsibility for all aspects of the coffee bar

  • Supervise, direct, counsel and assist all baristas, including training and continuing education, discipline and commendation

  • Management of front of house: customer service, preparation and presentation of beverages and information, operational procedures, merchandising

  • Greet all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with our customers by learning their names, favourite drinks and food items

  • Maintain efficient, friendly service standards and demonstrates such standards when training other team members

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Proactively train staff to maintain and uphold all company and café policies

  • Develop a training program for all baristas and execute these training sessions to the highest of standards

  • Actively work towards creating a personable café experience through customer service, beverage preparation and presentation, in-store marketing, and upkeep of the physical space

  • Handle customer complaints with professionalism and tact.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

 

  • Love and knowledge of coffee

  • Excellent communication and teaching skills

  • Ability to keep a calm, mature, professional demeanour when needed

  • A high degree of ethics and obsession with customer service

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with an ability to self-direct when necessary

  • High level of organization and detail orientated

  • At least 2 years of experience in specialty coffee and the coffee industry

  • Understanding of what a high-functioning coffee bar looks like and how to execute that perspective.
